Susan Sandberg - Candidates on Demand

B-Line Trail Dedication Ceremony, Thursday, September 8, 2011

I'm Susan Sandberg, President of the Bloomington City Council, and on behalf of my fellow council members, thank you for being here…we are so proud of the B-Line Trail and this community. The vision for this project started with the Honorable Mayor, Tomi Allison, and here we are today at the B-Line dedication. I was reminded by Councilmember Tim Mayer, that he and then Councilmember, Chris Gaal, attended the management team meetings set up by Mayor Fernandez to transition B-Line planning to the Kruzan administration. They discussed purchase opportunities, trail build-out, neighborhood connections, business development facing the trail, opportunities for public art and art display and a signature 3rd Street element. I know how proud Tim and Chris both are, along with other council colleagues, to see this project move from the drawing board to execution, fulfilling all the hopes they had from the beginning.   Read Susan's full remarks. . .

Dear Friends.

I'm Susan Sandberg, running for re-election to the Bloomington City Council, and I'm asking for your support. We have enjoyed a long-standing history of economic health and strong progressive leadership in Bloomington. I have been honored to play a role in that proud legacy since joining the City Council in 2007 as an at-large representative. I have served as council president twice during my time on the City Council, first in 2008 and also this year during the campaign season. Looking forward, giving back is the essence of my leadership on the City Council. I will continue to work hard in promoting creative strategies to maintain and develop economic prosperity.

The next four years will present new challenges as we hold on to the core values that make Bloomington such a special place. Striking economic and social balance will be necessary in making the hard choices that we'll need to make in the face of changing circumstances, economic realities and our shared community values. We want to maintain the good reputation of Bloomington through the work of dedicated leaders who represent the needs and opinions of all citizens. In my position as a councilmember at-large, I have listened well and worked diligently to be inclusive and respectful in serving the duties of elected office.

Experience does matter as we approach a new term. I'm eager to reach new voters, and I value the personal relationships and collaborative partnerships I've developed during my time on the City Council. Good government and responsive servant leadership is important to me, and I know it is to you. I would sincerely appreciate your support during early voting and on Election Day, November 8.

If you care to volunteer for my campaign team (the Kitchen Cabinet) or provide support in any manner, feel free to contact me. Your assistance will be most welcome. Join me on Facebook, and contact me by email, susan@susansandberg.org. More detailed information is on my website, so please visit!

Susan Sandberg to speak at the NAACP Conference, Saturday, August 13, 2011

"Thank you, and welcome on behalf of the Honorable Mayor, Mark Kruzan and the City of Bloomington. I'm pleased to be here this morning as you begin the Education Summit of the Indiana State NAACP Conference at Ivy Tech Community College. "Education, No One Left Out, and No Stumbling Blocks" - an inspiring and timely theme for this conference."

"I come from a long line of teachers and a family where education was a family value. I departed from the family career path ever so slightly, but I do teach, I am a lifelong learner, and there are few issues as important today as our careful attention to the status of education and our public schools."
